Description
This striking pair of antique Victorian Neo-Classical brass andirons—also known as fire dogs - dates to the 19th century and beautifully showcases the elegant symmetry of the Adams style. Each piece is surmounted by a detailed classical urn finial decorated with sweeping scroll handles, loose drop-rings, and an intricate geometric Greek wave pattern band. Below the urn, the main square pedestal features a sharply cast sunburst rosette medallion with a central structural screw, which is flanked by stylized ram's head crests. The entire front assembly is supported by a stable, tripod-style base with splayed legs terminating in finely detailed animal hoof feet. Connecting the ornate fronts to the rear support pillars are pierced gallery rails featuring openwork vertical slots, completing a heavy, high-quality set designed to bring historic architectural sophistication to a large fireplace hearth. One has verdigris to the rear stand, please see images for closer details.
