Description
A very pretty Derby porcelain chocolate cup with tapering sides and unusual shaped handles with moulded acanthus leaves across the thumb rest area and lower terminal. The cover with curved stepped edge and ring shaped knop with moulded acanthus leaves. The cup has a charming scene, very finely painted in sepia enamel of three putti or young children dancing around a brazier. The other side has a bold gilt pattern of stylised flowers and foliage and matching decoration to the cover. Gilt rims and details to the handles and knop. Red painted mark, c.1825.

It measures 9cm (3 1/2") high with the cover on, 6.8cm (2 5/8") to the rim and 12cm (4 3/4") wide across the handles.

In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration. Some minor wear to the gilt on the rim of the cup but otherwise handling wear is minimal. Some shrinkage lines under the glaze around the knop terminals.
