Description
This is a superb-quality original Edwardian period mahogany and marquetry inlaid combination mantel clock, aneroid barometer and thermometer, dating from circa 1901-1910.
This beautiful antique instrument is housed within a wonderfully crafted mahogany case, displaying a rich, warm colour, attractive figuring and exceptional decorative appeal.
The elegant architectural case features a gracefully shaped, domed upper section, surmounted by an ornate brass carrying handle and complemented by decorative brass finials and four substantial brass bracket feet.
The beautifully presented front is embellished with exquisite floral and ribbon marquetry inlay, featuring delicate trailing garlands, stylised foliage, bows and fine geometric stringing.
The piece incorporates three beautifully arranged instruments:
Mantel Clock:
Positioned to the left is an attractive circular clock, featuring a silvered dial with traditional black Roman numerals, an outer minute chapter ring and elegant black hands.
The clock is enclosed within a polished brass bezel and retains its key-wound mechanical movement.
The clock is fully working, and its winding key is included in the sale.
Aneroid Barometer:
To the right is a matching circular aneroid barometer, also enclosed within a polished brass bezel.
The attractive silvered dial displays traditional weather predictions, including Stormy, Much Rain, Rain, Change, Fair, Set Fair and Very Dry.
A beautifully decorative and practical instrument, designed to indicate changes in atmospheric pressure and anticipated weather conditions.
Thermometer:
Centrally positioned between the clock and barometer is a traditional vertical thermometer, mounted upon a contrasting dark backing with polished brass fittings.
