Superb Pair of George II Mahogany Chairs

Fabulous pair of George II mahogany chairs, beautifully made and wonderfully carved throughout. The top rails feature acanthus leafwork and flowers at the centre, with scrolling shoulder terminals; the unusually wide splat has impressive fretwork and a carved philosopher's knot at the centre, flanked by flowers. The perfectly weighted front legs are boldly carved with acanthus leaf and claw-and-ball feet, with fine gadrooning to the quadrant bead on the seat rail. The chairs have had small repairs over the years, but all the original parts remain in place.
