A handsome piece of carved furniture, this Swedish piece is labelled and stamped for E J Bohman of 18 Stora Vattugatan in Stockholm, a retailer who operated from 1842 and supplied the Swedish Parliament and the Crown. It is a great storage piece in the 19th century tradition with 7 drawers, the top two having drop fronts.
- Wellington style, with the right side Corinthian column decoration hinged to allow the drawers to open.
- 7 drawers with burr walnut fronts.
- Lovely carving to the column capitals.
- Label at the inside back of the top drawer 'E J Bohman & Son, Snickare, Stockholm, Stora Vattugatan 18, Clara v. Kyrkogata 9'.
- Stamp to the inside base of the top drawer 'E. J. Bohman & Son, Etablerad Ar 1842, Mobelfabrik, Stockholm'.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. A small chip to the wood by the lower right corner of the top drawer is hidden by the hinged column when it is closed. There is some minor wear to the carving at the top of the right column and some use wear to the wood near the right key hole which would benefit from polishing. No key is available, but the lock is present.
