Tall Late 18th Century Pricket Candlestick (Converted to Electric)
Tall Continental painted wood altar candlestick, late 18th Century
Standing an impressive 1.4 metres tall, this late 18th century Continental altar candlestick is carved in wood and gesso, raised on a heavy lead/metal base. Later sections have been roughly embellished with gold paint to imitate gilding. The surface shows rich patina, notable wear, and evidence of historic repairs, all contributing to its evocative presence.
Converted to electricity at a later date, the piece retains its ecclesiastical character and decorative impact.
