Unspoilt patina. Attractive grain to All exterior surfaces rather than merely to the top and front of the box as is frequently the case on lesser quality boxes. Tunbridge Ware style inlaid bands to the top and front. Attractive surrounds to the Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon. All veneer and all inlays are original, complete and in excellent condition. The three sections to the box all close perfectly square on the original hinges. Original lock with a replacement working key supplied. Original panel to the lid interior secured by a swing clasp that when released gives access to a storage envelope. The top layer of the base section features a removable replacement tray that has been neatly relined. Upon removing the tray the front section folds forward to present a sloping writing platform with a very neatly gilt tooled replacement leather in perfect condition. The office section comprises of a lidded central section, stamp slope and inkpot section with a replacement brass screw top inkpot in excellent condition. Storage space for paper and miscellaneous accessories beneath the upper section of the writing platform. An attractive dual purpose box that displays well.
