Superb quality and very large Brass and copper cigar rectangular cigar casket/box, the hinged lid cast in relief with a design by R. Caton Woodville (1857-1921) of British infantry overrunning a German field gun beneath the concluding lines from Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘All That We Have And Are’ - ‘What stands if freedom fall?, who dies if England lives?, the final lines to Kipling’s patriotic poem ‘All That We Have And Are’ was published in the Times in 1914 to promote recruitment and used, as in the case of this box, to help raise funds for war charities. The sides of this highly impressive piece which I have only ever seen one other version, much smaller in silver plate, by Elkington , is cast with portrait busts of George V, Albert I, King of the Belgians, the President of France, Edward, Prince of Wales, King Nicholas I of Montenegro, Tsar Nicholas Ii of Russia, King Peter I of Serbia, and Emperor Taisho of Japan. A stunning, rare, and highly collectible piece of history offered in fabulous condition.
