Here is a Rare piece of Doulton Pottery. It is modelled on a Roman 'Old Sarum Kettle' - Sarum being the Roman name for Salisbury in Wiltshire. It is 2 tone and made from Stoneware with a delightful glazing. This was made by Doulton after 1882 in their Lambeth works whilst still making Driain and Sewer Pipes. It is in Excellent condition. There is a Marking on the side of the kettle--yet to trace and understand it. A really delightful item. Museum piece?? Measures 11.5 inches in height and stands on a 3.00 Base. This was made by Doulton in 1895 and made exclusively for Watson & Co. of Salisbury--They opened in 1834 for selling Chinaware for Households. This was quite a popular item being that Salisbury was a large Roman Encampment. Watsons closed in 2004 after 170 years of trading.
