Very Unusual Antique Wooden Cherub, Putti, Table Centre-piece

This is a superbly unusual item which dates to over 100 years old. I bought it as a table centre piece but I am unsure of its real intended use, it may have possibly once been some form of table lamp, but that is just a guess. The centre piece is made of very aged, bleached looking wood and features tiers of carved discs featuring putti or cherubs. The discs get smaller towards the top and if you look closely you can see remnants of gilding that has worn off over time. The wooden base is carved with flowers and leaves and is hollow underneath. Measurements 54cm high x 16cm in diameter at the base
