Victorian Antique 19th Century Black Forest Hand Carved Box- Lovely Relined Interior - Lock & Key

This is a lovely antique Black Forest box dating to around the late 19th Century. It is made from linden wood which is derived from lime trees and was commonly used for black forest carvings and boxes of this period. it has a branch of grape vine leaves hand carved in relief on the lid and also carved detail around the sides of the box that gives it such a great natural looking, rustic appearance that black forest work is renowned for. It comes with a good working lock and key which operates well and locks and unlocks the box easily. the lid is a good fit with hinges that are safe and secure and this opens up to a really nice interior that has been relined with good quality contrasting materials (not baize or felt). This box is in a very good antique condition considering it is well over 100 years old with fair wear and tear plus commensurate markings (though minimal) with a wonderful colour to the wood. there are also naturally occurring markings to the wood that really adds to the character of the box This is a lovely Black Forest box that displays really well and would make a fine addition to a collection but could be used for a number of things such as use on a desk/ table, for jewellery, cufflinks etc, keepsakes or even handkerchiefs as may have been its original purpose going by the shape of it. Great to give as a gift.....something a little bit different and unusual.
