A large mahogany framed Cheval mirror dating from the mid 19th Century. The mirror has an arched mahogany frame, supported by elegant scrolling arms. It stands on a beautiful serpentine curved base with splayed scrolling feet and its original castors. The castors are stamped "C&C Patent" for Cope & Collinson, makers of the finest hardware and used by only the top makers of the time. The mirror is adjustable and moves back on forth on ball catch brackets. It has its original antique mirror plate with some minor spots of wear and foxing. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
In a Nutshell Antiques & Interiors Ltd has clarified that the Victorian Floorstanding Mahogany Cheval Mirror (LA340637) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being Circa 1870
It is in good condition for its age. There are some old small holes where additional later fixing brackets have been removed on the sides of the arms, difficult to see when the mirror is in place. There has been a repair to one of the sockets but it is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use, some minor marks and knocks but nothing detrimental and the wood has developed a beautiful patina.
