A good example of a Victorian mahogany artist's box dating from the late 19th Century. The box has a brass carrying handle and brass hook latches. It has various interior dividers containing old tubes of paint, palette knives chalk and other materials including two original metal flasks for storing thinners and oil. It also comes with its original shaped artist's palette with lots of paint remaining on the surface.
The palette is stored neatly above the paints and the lid of the box is supported by a metal strut. The lid contains some boards and the front edge hinges to allow for these to slide out easily. The box has a brass carrying handle and two hooked brass closing latches.
Reputedly, the original owner of this box was the Victorian watercolour artist George Lawrence Bulleid (1858-1933).
The whole set is in good condition for its age and has the look of a genuine well used Artist's box, as original now as the day it was last used. There are plenty of signs of age and use, some marks and knocks, tarnish and paint spills but this all contributes to its lovely patina. The box itself is in good condition with a couple of old knocks and splits and a few signs of old worm but nothing detrimental and it displays well.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
