Description
A handsome late Victorian mahogany glazed display cabinet by W. Walker & Sons of Bunhill Row, London, dating from the late 19th century.
The cabinet has an elegant serpentine-shaped front with three glazed display sections, a mirror-backed interior and beautifully shaped cabriole legs. Richly figured mahogany, carved detailing and original brass drop handles give the piece a particularly refined appearance.
The original ivorine maker’s label remains in place for W. Walker & Sons, Manufacturers, Bunhill Row, London E.C.
Originally designed for displaying porcelain, silverware, books and decorative objects, the mirrored back reflects light through the cabinet and gives the interior an attractive sense of depth. Today it would work equally well as a display cabinet, glazed bookcase or collector’s cabinet in a living room, dining room, hallway or study.
A shaped lower shelf provides additional display space and balances the sweeping form of the cabinet above.
