Victorian Overshot Glass Water Jug c.1880

A fine Victorian overshot glass water jug dating to c1880. It has a poring section to the front with a wrythen ribbed body and a clear ribbed claw handle. Polished Pontil. Date & Origin:- England, USA or Europe, c1880. Comments:- Overshot glass was made during the Victorian era in many different locations, including England, Europe and the USA where Boston & Sandwich made some outstanding decorative and functional pieces. It is created by rolling the hot glass in tiny pieces of broken glass and then reheated to remove the sharp edges producing a very rustic look and feel.
