We are delighted to offer this Victorian teak brass bound officer’s military chest, a superb example of 19th-century campaign furniture, designed for portability and durability during service. Constructed in two parts for ease of transport, the chest features recessed brass handles and brass corner mounts, typical of military design. The warm teak has developed a fine patina over time, telling the story of its history.
Once an officer was commissioned, he would purchase a campaign chest to take for his service to far flung places around the world. It would have been supplied with specially made cases that each section could slide into ready for shipment. These cases were made of stained pine and have iron corners. Over time these got separated and lost. It is fitted an unusual drawer formation, with 3 drawers along the top, a helmet/hat drawer to each side of the central drawer. Below is a further deep drawer. The lower section is fitted 2 full width drawers. It stands on the original detachable turned feet.
Key Features:
• Original corners and flush handles to protect and add strength as it was transported.
• Six Drawers: Two smaller top drawers and three full-width lower drawers provide practical storage.
• Richly toned wood with a original patina
• Teak was used as it is resistant to sea water.
This piece combines utility with timeless elegance, making it a charming addition to both period and contemporary
“There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man’s lawful prey.”
On occasions customers have been disappointed to miss an item as they e-mailed their enquiry instead of phoning, I would recommend that if you wished to get the piece, please call rather than e-mail. We are very friendly and easy to deal
