Early 20th Century Hand Painted “For Sale” Sign A wonderfully characterful early 20th Century hand painted estate agent’s sign, executed on a solid oak board and displaying superb period typography. The bold red “FOR SALE” header immediately catches the eye, while the remainder is finely hand-lettered in black, advertising the joint sole agents E.J. & R.S. Ashby and Woods & Co., both based in Northampton. The sign features charming period details, including the old street addresses 81 Sheep St. and 18 Castilian St. as well as early telephone numbers. The painted surface shows attractive age related wear, scuffs, and patina consistent with long outdoor use, giving it an authentic, timeworn look without compromising legibility. Sign is painted on a thick oak board with a naturally weathered finish, this piece has a fantastic decorative presence ideal for interiors with industrial, rustic, or vintage commercial themes.
