Walnut & Mother of Pearl Inlaid Sideboard Dresser

A striking walnut dresser, circa 1880, lavishly inlaid throughout with intricate mother-of-pearl marquetry, forming a true statement piece of exceptional decorative appeal. The moulded top, bordered with finely detailed inlay, sits above a richly worked fall-front section with carved and inlaid panels. This opens and slides back to reveal an elaborate fitted interior, comprising five small drawers, five pigeonholes, and concealed compartments hidden behind carved figures. The entire fitted section also slides forward, demonstrating both ingenuity and craftsmanship. Below, the base features an arrangement of four small drawers and a larger central drawer above three cupboard doors, all adorned with geometric carving and mother-of-pearl inlay. Bold carved lion mask motifs to the sides, complemented by panelled ends and a solid hardwood back. With its rich colour, excellent patina, and finely executed carving, this is an unusual and highly decorative late 19th-century piece, raised on compressed bun feet and offering both visual impact and practical storage.
