Description
William George Tuck (1900-1998) a lovely watercolour with a touch of impressionism work a sailing boat in a working dock.
William George Tuck was born at East Ham, London on 25 May 1900, son of Joseph Robert William S. Tuck (1869-1935), a toolmaker, and his wife Mary Ann Elizabeth née Wright (24 April 1868-2 February 1952), who married at Poplar, London in 1895. In 1939, William was an insurance agent living at 65 Holme Road, East Ham with his widowed mother Mary and was still an insurance agent on the death of his mother in 1952. An amateur painter in watercolour who painted English landscapes around Suffolk and Essex including Woodbridge, Lavenham, Leigh-on-Sea, Tilbury, and Maldon but many of his more colourful paintings were of Mediterranean subjects in Malta, Cyprus and Spain. Tuck was adjudged the best artist in the water colour section at the seventh exhibition of the South Eastern Federation of Art Societies at the Guildhall in London in 1957 and again in 1962. In 1974, at the age of 74, he displayed fifty paintings at the Passmore Edwards Museum in Romford when he was chairman of the South Eastern Federation of Art Societies. He twice had pictures accepted by the Royal Academy, but these were not hung. William George Tuck died at Wanstead, London on 11 January 1999 aged 98.
