Euro Antique Watches

UK, Greater London

Specialities: Watches, Clocks

We have seen a vast rise in the demand for Antique Pocket Watches here at LoveAntiques.com in recent months, which could be down to the popularity of recent period dramas such as Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey or simply because they make for timeless gifts. Whatever the reason is for this surge in sales, we're sure you'll have your own reason for loving Antique Pocket Watches. Our Dealer of The Month has a deep-rooted love for Antique Pocket Watches that stems from a rather endearing childhood memory. Leslie Licht, the founder of Euro Antique Watches, recalls a fond memory from his childhood where he was sat holding a beautiful Silver IWC Schaffhausen Pocket Watch belonging to his Grandfather, and became transfixed watching the second hand travel steadily around the face of the watch. He had a very close bond with his Grandfather, and when he sadly passed away years later, Leslie inherited this Pocket Watch, so of course, the watch serves as a memory of his dear Grandfather. From then on, Leslie started collecting Pocket Watches and in 1985 this hobby became a business and he established Euro Antique Watches. He started trading at Antiques Fairs, meeting customers and making business contacts, which brought him much enjoyment and great satisfaction, especially when seeing the delight in his customers faces when they purchased one of his Pocket Watches. With times changing and on-line services growing, Leslie made the decision in more recent years to solely trade online, selling mostly Antique Pocket Watches and the occasional clock or pocket watch fob and chain. He takes pleasure in listing new items on LoveAntiques.com and when asked what he enjoys most about the products he sells, he advised us that he mostly enjoys the high-quality technical movements, and is fascinated by the craftsmanship that goes in to these 'true pieces of art' When it comes to customer service, Leslie says, "My motto is: The client is king! I always offer my best service, and as a result I have received a large amount of very positive feedback regarding both service and packaging over the years. Buying at Euro Antique Watches is guaranteed to be a great experience" So whether you're looking for a gift or simply wanting to add to your own collection, make sure you take a look at the superb array of stock on offer from Euro Antique Watches. Fine Jewels of Harrogate

UK, North Yorkshire
A friendly and approachable family run business. We have been dealers trading in fine gemstones, antique, period and bespoke jewellery for over 20 years. Having gained extensive knowledge first working in Harrogate for a BADA dealership before a stint in London’s famed Burlington Arcade our eye for quality has been harnessed through handling thousands of wonderful pieces. We started trading independently from London’s Portobello Antiques Market before moving to offices in Bond Street and Hatton Garden. As exhibitors at many international antique jewellery shows including New York, Miami, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Singapore we have built an extensive network of clients from whom we buy and sell. Now based back in the Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate where our affinity with antique jewellery began we are entering the digital age with our website. Working in tandem with our new office, clients are free to book an appointment to view any stock items of interest or show their jewellery that they may wish to sell. We also make bespoke commissions and will go the extra mile to source any item a client requires that we currently do not have within our stock. We offer repair and restoration services and will always make fair offers to purchase any unwanted items of jewellery whether that be a single piece or a large collection. Our aim is to provide insightful and thoughtful advice within a private no pressure environment. We are always happiest passing on what information we can about diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls and jewellery from across the ages to enhance our customer experience. Whether it’s a piece from last year or the last millennium our emphasis is always on quality, from the cut and colour of diamonds and gemstones to the lustre of opals and natural pearls.

Gift Of Light

UK, Greater London

Specialities: Lighting

Dear Visitor! For sale is a series of table/side lamps, derived from the genuine antique oil lamps. As a sign of the times though, we depart from the idea of using the oil (paraffin, kerosene) as a fuel and replace it with a more convenient and versatile source of light – the electricity. The lamps are suitable for any types of interiors, to complement or to contrast the surrounding furnishings with a traditional style form of lighting. The final products are fully functioning electric table/side lamps, fashioned from original oil lamps, or parts thereof. The lamps can be positioned in any place of the room, both central as well as side locations. The lamps can also be placed on mantels or other shelfs. Those fitted with milky glass shades can also serve as the desk/reading lamps. The lamps have been assembled, wired and tested for safety by a competent and experienced personnel and are delivered ready for display and use. All parts used are genuine 1850 – 1950 period, unless otherwise stated. All electric components and circuits are made anew. Each lamp’s body comprises two major parts: the base and the shade. Bases come in an endless variety of shapes and sizes. The most typical shape of the base is a column, rested on a stepped pedestal or a socle with a classical capital (often referred to as a Corinthian column, but also Ionic order columns can be found). Other popular forms are urn or cup shaped vessels, originally designed to contain the oil fonts (founts). Other can be in form of figural or ornamental structures of any description. The lamps’ designs usually follow the fashion of the time when the lamps were created: Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, and so on. As the lamps were often the centre showpieces of the households, they would have been manufactured with great taste and care. Oil lamp fonts, especially those cut-crystal glass ones, were particularly decorative. Yet, once oil has been replaced with the electricity, they became redundant. Now we are able to offer these original fonts adapted to fit electric lightbulbs and work off mains electricity and in doing so give beautifully crafted items a second working life! Lamp bases are mostly made of brass, occasionally bronze or other metals. Lamp pedestals and/or columns are sometime made of marble or other decorative stones. Many lamps of various forms are made of spelter, i.e. a zinc alloy, often gilt or bronzed, especially popular around the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. Wherever appropriate, the lamp bases are placed on added wooden (MDF) plinths. The plinth makes them more stable and provides protection against accidental scratching of the furniture surface as well as shielding for the electric wiring. The highly decorative glass oil lamp fonts, no longer required to hold the kerosene/paraffin, have been craftly repurposed to serve as the lamps’ glass shades, with the electric bulbs inside. Oil lamp burners have also been re-worked to house the electric components. The bulbs emit brilliant, atmospheric light, enhanced by the decorative, often sparking cut-glass fonts. Frosted, hand painted glass fonts are also used. Fonts have their undermounts (now positioned at the top of the lamp) capped for decoration with the burners’ winder wheels (removed from the burners while converting for the electric use). The flexible, 3 wire electric cord is of a golden-brown colour and around 2 m in length. The mains plug is fitted with a 3 Amp fuse. The bulbs are of a long life, low wattage (6W to 8W), dimmable LED type, controlled by an in-line dimmer, alongside the mains on/off switch. The dimmer allows to adjust the light intensity to accommodate the lamp’s position and to create the required ambient atmosphere. Dimming operations mimic effects of the oil lamp flame adjustments. It shall be stressed, that the goal of these undertakings is not to restore the antique items, namely oil lamps, to their original form, but rather to create aesthetically pleasing new forms, derived from the original ones, and retaining as much as possible of their original character. Such transformation and modernisation process ensures that the created lamps are unique pieces of artwork in their own right.
