17/18th Century Polychrome Painted Pine Ecclesiastical Panel Depicting St Jude Constructed from Four Planks (Now in Two Sections) A powerful and atmospheric ecclesiastical painted panel depicting St Jude, likely produced in a Spanish workshop between the 17th and 18th centuries. Executed in polychrome pigments on pine, the saint is shown seated upon a classical plinth, clutching a large cross—an attribute closely associated with his martyrdom. The expressive modelling of the face, drapery, and pose reflects the devotional intensity and provincial artistry typical of Iberian religious works of this period. The panel was originally formed from four vertical planks, now surviving as two joined sections, a configuration clearly visible in the surface fissure. The paint layer retains substantial areas of its historic polychromy, softened by centuries of wear, abrasion, and age-related patina. The lower plinth retains the inscription “S. IUD[E]”, confirming the subject.
