17th or 18th Century Oil on Canvas Depicting Birth of Christ

A lovely piece of religious art, this late 17th or early 18th century oil on canvas depicts the birth of Christ and highlights the baby Jesus alongside his mother the Virgin Mary, with a surrounding cast of characters. It will look wonderful in a room with a religious context, or a large room with historic features and will make a central nativity feature at Christmas. - Mary and Jesus in sharp contrast at the centre, with the surrounding characters depicted more softly featured. - Joseph to the right, with the shepherds to the left, along with a small child, an older man, a sleeping lamb and an angel in cherubic form top right. - Landscape view at the back, looking out of the stable. - Gesso wood frame with a textured pattern and gilt highlights. In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. The frame has two chips, top left and right. There is currently no hanging mechanism; a bracket or wire would need to be attached.
