This is an impressive 18th Century oil on board of Anthony van Dyke from the original 17th century self portrait. Sir Anthony Van Dyck was by far the most influential painter to have worked during the seventeenth century. Flemish by birth he found patronage in a number of European countries. The quality is superb with excellent brushwork and I believe painted in Europe, possibly Italy towards the end of the 18th century or early part of the 19th century. The painting is presented in a later gold matt board and later gilt wood frame, ready to hang with supporting hooks and wire. The size of the painting is 200mm high x 155mm wide, the frame size is shown below.
Celia Rose Antiques has clarified that the 18th Century Oil on Board Portrait Anthony Van Dyck (LA225905) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 18th Century
The painting is in excellent Antique condition with a little light craquelure visible in certain lights, the frame has some marks and blemishes associated with age and handling.
