19th Century Oil Painting Cusco School Archangel St Michael

This is a fabulous Spanish Cuzco style oil painting of an archangel dating from the mid 19th Century. This style originated in South America. The style of painting first started appearing in Peru but these images were widespread throughout the Andes, in places such as La Paz, Bolivia, as far as Argentina and in the late 19th century into the 20th across Europe as well. Representing celestial, aristocratic, and military beings all at once. The painting is generally in very good condition on canvas mounted onto a board. There is a little craqueleur as can be seen in the photos but overall it’s in good order. The colours are strong and vibrant and has bright gilt highlights.
