This is an antique master shipping clerk's desk. An English, mahogany and leather partner desk, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910. Wonderfully wide example, with a broad writing surface and suite of drawers that displays a desirable aged patina and in appealingly original order. Select stocks present fine grain interest and deep caramel hues. Presented in its original order, the leather skiver has superb character showing wax sealing-iron burns. Georgian overtones to the desk edge, with a tactile gadrooned finish. Generous desktop measuring 137.5cm (54.25'') across, above a bank of five drawers. The decorative reverse bank dressed with matching brass, drop handles. Each drawer replete with an inset brass lined lock — keys absent. Shaped brackets accentuate the kneehole to each side of the desk. Broad cabriole legs at each corner adorned with leaf carvings to the knees. Standing upon fascinating ball and talon feet, another Georgian revival choice.
