A handsome antique early 19th century brass tobacco box. It is designed in the Dutch manner with a naively bright cut engraved heraldic emblem to the top of the lid, there is a lion and a castle enclosed within a shield, the shield surrounded by scrolling foliate and a decorative border. It is a large table top box with a lightly domed lid on a brass hinged lid, standing on magnificent lion paw feet.
A very grand piece of Antique tobacciana, no liner to the box as is common with a box of this age.
