Antique Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Metamorphic Writing Table c.1905

An Edwardian mahogany metamorphic writing and work table, the crossbanded top opening on patent brass linkages to automatically elevate a tooled leather writing slope and fitted stationery gallery, set over a suspended work pouch and raised on slender square tapered legs. Retailed by Finnigans, esteemed outfitters of luxury goods and travel accoutrements, the piece houses an ingenious rise-and-fall action stamped under patent numbers 1631 and 5466 that converts a compact side table into a complete writing station, representing the height of Edwardian space-saving ingenuity and design. Very good antique condition, with only some light surface wear, a clean split to the original gilt-tooled leather from historic timber movement and internal wear to the lower compartment interior.
