This is an antique gentleman's glove box. An English, walnut sarcophagus shaped keepsake or card case, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1870.
Delightful craftsmanship, ideal for the reception hall side cabinet or dresser that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Walnut stocks present wonderful colour and figuring. Burr walnut to lid adds further grain interest.
Original silk cotton lining to the lid reverse in attractive aqua blue hue. Pleasingly clean interior perfect for use. Inset lock to the front fascia — untested, key absent. Dressed to the base with a protective green baize.
