This is an antique Sorrentoware keepsake box. An Italian, walnut and silk cotton lined dressing table case, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880. Wonderful example of Italian decorative casework that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Walnut stocks present fine grain interest and warm caramel hues. Fascia hosts a distinctive diamond shape escutcheon — untested, key absent. Lid adorned with a charming foliate medallion with a basket of flowers motif. Opens to a striking silk cotton lined interior in a vibrant purple hue. Contrasting ebonised stringing to the case edge presents well.
