Description
This is an antique gentleman's travelling box. An Anglo-Indian, teak and brass bound correspondence case, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1880.
Delightful colonial interest, perfect for the golden age of luxury travel. Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Select teak shows fine grain interest and deep caramel hues. Accentuated with brass bound corners, showing golden tones.
Attractive inlaid lid, with a boxwood shield form surrounding a brass quarterfoil. To the reverse, an original mirror plate presents a clear, bright reflection. The mirror lifts to reveal a suite of document slides, held securely by a sliding clasp.
Glass door lifts open to reveal a small selection of storage trays. Decorated with small pierced brackets, the front tray lifts out for ease of access. Dressed to the front fascia with an inset quaterfoil lock escutcheon — key absent.
This is a fascinating antique gentleman's travelling box, with quality craftsmanship and a suite of useful features to aid the convenience of long journeys away from home. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
