Antique Sewing Set / Etui in Studded Leather Purse / Hand Bag c.1880

Antique sewing étui which dates circa 1880 and consists of brass studded leather handbag form case with brass catch and carry chain. The bag is of cylindrical form and measures approx 12cm by 8cm and is 5.5cm in depth. The case has hinged opening and at the centre of the purse is a deep silk lined compartment which is empty. Beneath both lid doors are silk flaps, on one side covering needle storage and a small packet of needles. On the other side is a fitted section containing faux tortoise shell sewing implements and a pair of scissors. This sewing set is offered in very good antique condition. The leather case is strong and sturdy and the leather exterior has only light age wear. The interior lining is in good clean order with no soiling or fading. The implements are all in good order, although the steel parts have age tarnish.
