Crafted in gilt brass, this elegant instrument echoes the design of a gentleman’s pocket watch. The paper compass card displays a detailed 32-point rose and degree scale, with the classic fleur-de-lis north marker and blued-steel needle under domed glass. The hinged case retains its warm gilded finish and fitted carrying ring, designed for portability and protection. Encased in its black leather-covered case, lined in velvet, the compass remains in excellent, functional condition — a fine example of 19th-century British scientific craftsmanship.
