Description
Early 20th Century Wooden Centrepin Fishing Reel on Stand – Nottingham Style (c.1900–1930) A beautifully presented example of traditional British angling equipment, this early 20th-century wooden centrepin fishing reel embodies the craftsmanship and simplicity of classic river fishing tackle. Mounted on a custom display stand, it offers both historical interest and strong decorative appeal. Constructed from richly toned hardwood, likely mahogany, the reel features a deep drum with four circular line apertures, a hallmark of early Nottingham-style reels. The front is fitted with twin ebonised wooden handles, designed for smooth and controlled retrieval, while the central brass spindle and fittings provide both durability and visual contrast. A brass check lever is present, allowing the reel’s click mechanism to be engaged or disengaged—an essential feature for traditional float fishing. The overall design reflects a time when functionality and hand-crafted quality were paramount, prior to the widespread use of modern materials. While unsigned, it closely follows the style of reels produced by well-known firms such as S. Allcock & Co. and Hardy Brothers during the period.
