Christine McGregor, Girl Reading, pastel on board, c1918, signed, period frame

Size: Frame 49.5 x 59.5 cm, pastel inside mount 30.5 x 38.5 cm. Condition: Pastel and mount in very good condition, used frame also good with some minor scuffs. This very well captured pastel portrait of a girl reading is by Christine McGregor and was drawn by her while she was studying for a Diploma at the Glasgow School of Art. She was awarded the Diploma, for Drawing and Painting, in 1918. The School of Art label on the back of the board confirms that she was a day student, and the drawing is also signed by her "Chris McGregor" bottom left. We do not have any further biographical information about the artist. The pastel is in its original plain oak frame and lined mount, but we have added another cream mount which sets it off well.
