Description
A charming and unusual early 20th century Cunard Line silver-plated miniature brandy warmer, manufactured by the celebrated Sheffield silversmiths Harrison Brothers & Howson, circa 1920–1930. Of diminutive proportions, the warmer features a small cylindrical bowl with a long elegantly curved handle, designed for the individual warming and serving of brandy. The underside carries the distinctive Harrison Brothers & Howson, Sheffield, England maker’s mark. Harrison Brothers & Howson were one of Sheffield’s best-known manufacturers of quality silver and silver-plated tableware and supplied pieces associated with the great British shipping lines. This example is particularly desirable because of its Cunard Steamship association, evoking the golden age of transatlantic ocean-liner travel when finely made tableware and bar accessories formed an important part of first-class service aboard the great liners. A wonderfully evocative piece of British maritime and ocean-liner memorabilia and an excellent addition to a collection of Cunard, maritime, cocktail or barware antiques.
