Edith Granger Taylor (1897-1958) Signed Pastel Label Verso

For sale is a lovely Art Deco era pastel drawing by the British artist Edith Granger-Taylor (1897-1958). It is signed by the artist lower right in pencil and dated 1920. A gallery label verso from the Grosvenor Galleries in Bond Street, London indicates that the title of the work is "Early Morning". Edith Granger-Taylor was born in Grassington, Yorkshire. From an early age, she displayed a talent for painting and went on to study at several prestigious art schools. In 1910, she attended the Royal Academy Schools for a term and later studied at St. John's Wood Art School. In 1919, she enrolled at the Slade School of Fine Art, where her skill with pastel was praised by Henry Tonks among others. This medium, along with crayon , became her primary mode of artistic expression. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Granger-Taylor exhibited her works frequently. She also held solo exhibitions at the Grosvenor Galleries in 1922 and the Beaux Arts Gallery in 1932. The painting is framed with a giltwood frame which measures about 43 x 47 centimeters and weighs 1,832 grams. Condition is good with no rips or tears. Some smudges and faint paper browning. I will be shipping the drawing with its glass. It's a lovely picture from a fairly rare woman artist.
