This is a beautiful 19th century enamelled portrait of Saint Fabiola on metal panel after the artist Jean Jacques Henner. Henner (1829 -1905) was a French Painter noted for his use of sfumato and chiaroscuro in painting nudes religious subjects and portraits. His works are in the collection of the Musee d’Orsay, Paris, Brooklyn Museum, Cantor Arts Centre California National Gallery of Art, Washington DC and the Musee des Beaux Arts in Dijon. The portrait of the Saint here is beautifully enamelled onto a circular metal disc mounted in brass onto a velvet covered easel frame. The enamels are in beautiful vibrant colours and in excellent condition for the age of the piece, circa 1850. The piece measures 17 cms by 15 cms overall with the portrait being 8 cms in diameter.
