Description
A very fine early 19th-century Rockingham coffee cup and saucer in bone china, decorated in pattern 743. The cup is of bucket form with a figure 7 handle and is decorated with a rich claret ground, burnished gilding and a finely painted panel of seashells. The saucer has the matching claret ground and gilt banding, creating a particularly elegant and decorative appearance. This quality of painting and gilding is associated with Rockingham’s finer red griffin period tea and coffee services. The cup is marked for Yates, Leeds, and dates to around 1826–1830. A rare and attractive collector’s piece, beautifully decorative and in excellent condition. Measurements Cup height: 7.5 cm Cup diameter: 7.7 cm Saucer diameter: 15 cm Condition Excellent antique condition, with no damage or restoration. No glaze crazing. Only a couple of light superficial scratches consistent with age.
