Hubert Freeth Watercolour - The Lying in State of Sir Winston Churchill

Hubert Andrew Freeth (RA, PRWS, RP, RE, RBA born 1912) was a portrait painter and etcher who was born in Birmingham. He studied at Birmingham College of Art and at the British School of Art at Rome (1936-1939). He exhibited at R.A. from 1936, also at the RWS, RE, RP & RBA in the provinces and has held several one man shows. Elected Are 1938 RE 1946, ARWS 1948, RO 1949, RWS 1955, ARA 1955, RA 1965.In 1943 he went to the Middle East as an official war artist to the RAF. Additionally attached to the backboard is a letter from Lady Mary Soames (daughter of Sir Winston Churchill) to Mr Davis, a previous owner of the picture, expressing a desire to see the watercolour with a view to possibly buying it.
