Jules Le Roy 1856-1921.Born in France,probably the son of Jules Le Roy Senior,a still life painter.He was renowned for his paintings of cats executed in both oils and watercolour.Paintings of pets were highly coveted by the upper classes of the 19th century,and Le Roy’s c harming compositions of mischievous cats in domestic interiors were particular favourites.His works remain just as popular today,found in important private and public collections such as Musee d’Art et d’Industrie( Roubaix). ‘ The Judge ‘ signed oil on relined canvas,image size45x37 cms,framed size 64x56cms.Housed in its original decorative giltwood and plaster frame inscribed with title.
