Large Heavy Murano Green & Amber Art Glass Bowl - Original Label 3kg

A particularly substantial mid-century Murano art glass bowl, hand formed in a striking combination of rich amber, olive green and deep smoky tones, and retaining its original “Made in Murano Italy” foil label. This is an exceptionally heavy piece for its relatively compact dimensions, weighing approximately 3 kilograms, giving it the substantial quality and presence associated with heavily worked Murano glass. The bowl is of rounded square form with a deeply recessed central well surrounded by an exceptionally thick glass rim. The underside has been dramatically moulded with pronounced ribs and sculptural folds, producing fascinating changes of colour and optical effects as light passes through the considerable depth of the glass. The colour is particularly attractive. Viewed from above, the centre has a rich golden amber appearance graduating through olive and green tones before becoming considerably darker around the thick outer sections. The retained original foil label reads: “MADE IN MURANO ITALY” A very decorative and tactile example of post-war Italian art glass which works equally well as a bowl, centrepiece or standalone sculptural object.
