Murano Sommerso Faceted Glass Vase - Original Label

A superb vintage Murano Sommerso art glass vase, dating from approximately the 1960s, retaining its original foil label. Of substantial hand-blown construction, the vase has a striking elongated geometric form with deeply cut and highly polished facets. The interior displays a beautiful smoky blue-grey / teal tone, submerged within a thick layer of clear glass. The Sommerso technique — literally meaning “submerged” — was one of the defining techniques of post-war Murano glassmaking, producing distinct layers of coloured glass encased within clear crystal. The pronounced faceting of this example beautifully refracts the internal colour, creating different shades of blue, grey and green depending upon the angle and lighting. The sculptural form and sophisticated colour combination make this a particularly attractive example of Mid-Century Modern Italian art glass, equally suitable for a specialist Murano collection or contemporary interior.
