Description
Very large Meiji Period Japanese Imari or Arita charger.. Uncommonly decorated with three floral panels depicting chrysanthemums separated by gilded panels with exotic birds. Painted in traditional Imari colours with gilt over-glaze. Traditional cobalt blue under-glaze decoration to its underside with red overglaze detail. This charger is a good example of the porcelain ware that was made for export during the Meiji period. It has an unglazed foot and imprints on its underside from supports used during firing.
