Large Tall Kralik Iridescent Crackle Glass Art Nouveau Vase C.1910
REF: GL128 / LA77622
Magnificently tall Kralik iridescent crackle glass vase c1910. The vase is of a tapered form below a short collar neck. With petrol-blue and magenta iridescence over a crackle citron ground. A beautiful vase of many characters depending on light! The vase measures 37 cm in height. Unmarked as is typical of Kralik glass. Crackle Glass was thought to have been developed by Venetian glass makers of the 16th Century. This process requires molten hot glass to be immersed in cold water causing the piece of glass to crack. The glass is then reheated and blown into shape. The reheating of the glass seals the cracks in the glass. If you (carefully!) run your hand over the crackle glass outside you will feel the cracks but it is smooth to the touch on the inside.
