Description
Very heavy chunky rustic oak vintage coffee table made in the 1920s probably, though possibly later, likely eastern european. This was probably once a boar slaughtering table, if that doesn't put you off your macchiato..there's a roughly hewn groove with an exit slot for draining away the terrible fluids (like herbal tea, blood etc). Having sanded this extensively, we can report no horrid lingering smells, and there isn't really any staining so it might actually have been for another purpose. There were holes cut in the top for a framework but these have been filled in since. A really thick top, all in one piece of timber, with four splayed legs which can be removed with a bit of jiggling. We could glue and screw the legs in but, once it's sitting in place, there's no real movement as the legs are also good and thick. We've coated the whole thing with finishing oil, enough to give it some water resistance. Further coats will provide more protection but things get shiny. Dimensions: 155cm x 47cm x 43cm high

declaration

condition
Condition is fine structurally: some splits here and there but they don't move. Cosmetically lots of scuffs, marks and scratches etc, as you might expect (and possibly require). It's had quite significant woodworm in the past though no signs of life now. We've totally treated every part though, just in case. The larva were in the lighter sapwood edges: they couldn't get into the harder heartwood, so the sides have become quite rounded and misshapen, rather nicely I think.
