Description
Late 19th-Century Mahogany Table-Top Dressing Mirror, c.1880–1900 A well-proportioned late 19th-century mahogany table-top dressing mirror, dating from the closing decades of the Victorian period. Of pleasingly balanced form, the rectangular mirror plate is housed within a reeded mahogany frame, flanked by shaped side supports that allow the mirror to tilt, resting on a stepped rectangular base raised on bun feet. The uprights and frame are crisply worked with fine reeding and restrained turning, reflecting the practical yet decorative character of late Victorian dressing furniture. The mirror retains its original bevelled-edge plate, adding refinement to the overall appearance, while the warm mahogany surface displays an attractive, even colour throughout. Compact yet substantial, this is a useful and decorative dressing mirror, well suited to a chest of drawers, dressing table or sideboard.
