Biography of the artist John Cuthbert Salmon a known listed British artist who was born in the early Victorian era in the year of 1844, he grew up in the county of Essex southern England. He loved painting from a young age and later he decided to focus on his strength which was painting beautiful landscapes particularly of around North Wales. He was known to have spent time in Lancashire. He particularly loved North Wales & spent a great deal of time travelling around there painting beautiful landscape scenes. He died in the year 1917 which was before World War 1 ended. He is shown at the Royal Academy along with The New Watercolour Society. He was also joined the Liverpool Academy of Arts. You can see some of his paintings on display in the great Victoria and Albert Museum. He was also a member of Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His works have been exhibited in galleries and sold at auction houses around the world & fetch up to $4750 US dollars. This is an early example of his work. Capel Curig (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈkɑːpɛl ˈkɨːrɪɡ]; meaning "Curig's Chapel") is a small mountain village and community in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Historically in Caernarfonshire, it lies in the heart of Snowdonia, on the River Llugwy, Capel Curig takes its name from the little St Julitta's Church in the ancient graveyard by the river bridge on the Llanberis road. This, confusingly, has been known for over 100 years as St Julitta's Church, and is currently being restored by the "Friends of Saint Julitta". Tradition claims this chapel to be the 6th-century foundation of St Curig, a Celtic bishop. Centuries later, probably when the present ancient church was built, the name appears to have been Latinised as Cyricus, which is the name of a 4th-century child martyr whose mother was Julitta. They are usually named together as Saints Quiricus and Julietta. The names Capel Kiryg and Capel Kerig were recorded in 1536 and 1578 respectively. Approximately one kilometre from Pont Cyfyng, on the farm of Bryn Gefeiliau, there are the remains of a Roman fort (c.90–100 AD) and named Caer Llugwy by its excavators. Also located in Capel Curig is the UK National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin, which offers the highest quality mountaineering, climbing, canoeing facilities and training. Capel Curig is mentioned in the song Bottleneck at Capel Curig by cult UK band Half Man Half Biscuit on their album Trouble Over Bridgwater.
