Original Etching 'Bohemia' by Georg Wilheim Hallstein (1887-1923) Signed & Inscribed 1922

Georg Wilhelm Hallstein (23 September 1887 in Darmstadt; 14 May 1923 in Munich was a German caricaturist, etcher, draughtsman and poster artist. From 1919 until his death in 1923, he worked regularly for the magazine Jugend, in which a total of 143 of his works were published during this period. He illustrated books for René Prévot and Ernst Hoferichter. Together with the writer and literary critic Franz Blei, he published a portfolio of etchings on Schwabing's Bohemia in 1922. This etching is part of the series. As a poster artist, he designed posters for the Circus Krone. As a typographer and commercial artist, he designed several title pages for music sheets by the composer Heinrich Kaspar Schmid. "Hallstein would have deserved to remain alive in the memory of posterity – but his early death, in the economically difficult times at the beginning of the 1920s, meant that he was unjustly forgotten".
