Description
Original Lord Hill’s Bridge W2 Westminster Enamel Street Sign c.1967 An authentic City of Westminster enamel street sign for “Lord Hill’s Bridge W2”, dating to circa 1967 and designed under the direction of renowned British designer Sir Misha Black. This original vitreous enamel on steel sign represents an iconic piece of London streetscape history and mid-century British public design. Featuring the classic Westminster red and black typography format, the sign was produced exclusively for official municipal use and later removed during Westminster’s signage renewal programme. Surviving examples are increasingly sought after by collectors of architectural antiques, London memorabilia, industrial design, and urban heritage. The sign displays excellent authentic character throughout, including enamel loss, oxidation, rust bleed, scratches, and weathered patina developed through decades of genuine outdoor exposure. These features enhance its originality and decorative appeal. Accompanied by an official Westminster Certificate of Authenticity signed by James Crosbie, confirming authentic London street use and legitimate release into the private market. Provenance: Officially decommissioned by Westminster City Council Retains auction house label verso Accompanied by Westminster authenticity documentation A striking and increasingly collectible piece of historic London civic design, ideal for interior display, collectors, designers, and enthusiasts of British urban heritage.
