A wonderful pair of oil paintings by Edward Armfield (1857 - 1935) depicting his preferred subject matter of terrier dogs playing in various contexts. Both Armfield's father (the animal artist George Armfield) and grandfather (William Armfield Hobday) were artists and he continued in the family tradition. He used several names during his life and is also known as Edgar Armfield Smith and Edwin George Armfield. His work is hung in several museums and galleries, including Brighton Museum, Leamington Spa Art Gallery, The Whitaker and the Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
These oils on canvas are presented in gilt frames and make a lovely pair. They are both signed at the bottom, one to the left and the other to the right.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use.
